About Dominican Development Center

Our History

  • DDC was  founded in 2007 by Magalis Troncoso-Lama. Since its origin DDC has been organizing for racial and economic justice in collaboration with national and immigrant grassroots  organizations.
  • Members create spaces for dialogue on how racism impacts low-income families, addressing issues of violence against women, health disparities, and      challenges in professional development.
  • Recent Focus: Supporting leadership development for domestic workers, conducting surveys, and launching a Home Care Aide Program to empower immigrant women seeking workforce integration. Over 600 women have graduated from this  program.

Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for our members through proactive engagement with immigration-related matters impacting our communities. This encompasses comprehensive analysis and advocacy on matters such as current and proposed legislation, legal processes, labour practices, and human rights.

We achieve this mission through a multifaceted approach, which includes the development and implementation of programs and events that foster collaboration among individuals of varying backgrounds and generations. By uniting long-standing residents and recent arrivals, we work together to advance economic, political, racial, and social equity within our community.

Our vision

DDC envisions a future marked by equal representation, equal rights, and equal power for all immigrant families. We aspire to be a role model for other immigrant communities, demonstrating the positive impact of unity and collective advocacy. By embracing the unique contributions of each member, we aim to build a society that values diversity and inclusion.
